About this policy
This policy covers the SnoreSense iPhone app, its Apple Watch companion, its widgets, and this website. SnoreSense is published by the SnoreSense publisher (“we”, “us”), which is responsible for the website and for any information you send us directly, such as support emails.
Because SnoreSense keeps your recordings and observations on your own devices, most of the information described here is never received by us. This policy still explains what the app stores locally, so you can make informed choices. It describes the current release, including features that are not yet available.
Information and where it lives
The table below summarizes each kind of information SnoreSense handles. “On device” means stored in the app's private storage on your iPhone (or Watch) and not transmitted to us.
| Information | Where it lives | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microphone audio during a session | Processed in memory on iPhone; retained clips saved as protected local files | Detect likely snoring and let you play back highlights | Your retention choice: 7, 30 (default), or 90 days |
| Nights, events, scores, and corrections | On device, in the app's private database | Build your morning reports and trends | Until you delete them |
| Notes, night factors, experiments, and goals | On device | Compare nights and run experiments | Until you delete them |
| Apple Health summaries (optional) | Read from Apple Health; summaries cached on device | Add sleep and respiratory context to reports | Until you delete the related night or data |
| Widget summary | A redacted summary in a shared container on your device, readable by SnoreSense widgets | Show last night at a glance | Replaced on each update; removed with the app |
| Sign in with Apple identifier (optional) | Device Keychain | An optional identity you choose to add | Until you sign out or revoke access |
| Purchase status | Provided by Apple's App Store | Unlock Pro features you bought | Managed by Apple |
| Support emails | Our email provider | Reply to your request | While handling the request and for reasonable follow-up |
| Website request logs | Our hosting provider | Deliver and secure the website | Per the host's log retention |
The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting SDKs, and makes no network requests to servers operated by us.
Microphone and recording
SnoreSense uses your iPhone microphone only after you grant permission and start a session. Audio is analyzed on the device. By default, only short likely-snoring highlights are kept; keeping the full night is an explicit choice (a Pro feature). Watch microphone recording is not available in this release.
Recording other people. A session can capture other people and sounds in the room. Tell anyone who may be recorded, get their permission where required, and only record where you're lawfully allowed to. SnoreSense cannot reliably identify which person made a sound.
Apple Health
Health access is optional, and you choose exactly which data types to allow in Apple's permission sheet. SnoreSense reads available sleep and respiratory context and may save summaries alongside a report. It does not write to Apple Health. Missing information stays missing rather than being estimated.
Health data is never used for advertising, never sent to us, and never shared with data brokers. Revoking access stops future reads; summaries already cached stay until you delete the related SnoreSense data. Deleting data in SnoreSense never deletes the original records in Apple Health.
Apple Watch and widgets
The Watch companion receives session status, controls, and summaries from your iPhone over Apple's device-to-device connection. If earlier experimental Watch recordings exist, they stay on the Watch until you remove them in Saved Watch audio; the iPhone retention setting does not manage those files.
Widgets read a redacted summary. Lock Screen and watch-face figures are hidden by default, because anyone who can see those surfaces could see the detail you turn on.
Optional account and sync
Recording works without an account. If you choose Sign in with Apple, the app stores the optional identity in your device Keychain; you can revoke it in your Apple account settings. Automatic cloud sync is not available in this release, and recorded audio is excluded from any future sync. If that changes, we'll update this policy before the feature is offered and it will be off unless you turn it on.
Purchases
Apple processes all in-app purchases. SnoreSense reads your entitlement status to provide the features you bought and never receives your payment-card details. Apple handles transaction and account information under Apple's privacy policy.
Sharing and exports
Nothing leaves your device unless you explicitly export or share it. Personal-data exports (JSON) and individual night reports (PDF) contain no audio and are free. Audio sharing requires choosing a file and confirming.
Temporary copies the app creates for sharing are removed when sharing ends, when the source is deleted, or on next launch. Copies you send to another app or person are controlled by that recipient and can't be recalled by SnoreSense.
We do not sell personal information and do not “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We would disclose information we hold (such as a support email) only if required by law.
Purposes and legal bases
Where data protection laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply, we rely on the following bases for information we process:
- Providing the app you asked for (performance of a contract): local processing of recordings and observations, and unlocking purchases.
- Your explicit consent: microphone access and Apple Health access, which you can withdraw at any time in iOS Settings or Apple Health.
- Legitimate interests: responding to support requests and keeping this website secure and available.
- Legal obligations: where we must keep or disclose information by law.
Retention and deletion
Retained iPhone audio is deleted automatically after the period you choose (7, 30, or 90 days; 30 by default) when the app next opens. Observations stay until you delete them. In Profile → Data & Privacy you can delete all audio or all saved observations, and you can delete an individual night or its audio from the report. If a deletion fails, the app tells you so you can retry. Deleting the app removes its local data from that device; a Sign in with Apple identity kept in the Keychain may remain until you sign out or revoke it. See Your data controls for step-by-step guidance.
Security
SnoreSense keeps its database in the app's private storage and audio in protected files that rely on iOS data protection, which encrypts data while your device is locked with a passcode. The optional identity is stored in the Keychain. Only a redacted summary is placed where widgets can read it. No system is perfectly secure, so keep your device passcode-protected and up to date.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. Because your recordings and observations are stored only on your device, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app: export your data, edit notes, or delete anything. We cannot access, retrieve, or delete data that exists only on your device.
For information you've sent us (such as support emails), contact us using the details below and we'll respond within the time required by applicable law. If you're in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. California residents have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights; we do not sell or share personal information.
This website
This website runs no advertising pixels, analytics scripts, contact forms, or non-essential cookies, and does not set any cookies of its own. Fonts, scripts, and images are served from the site itself. This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process standard request information — IP address, browser type, requested URL, and time — to deliver the site, protect it from abuse, and keep operational logs under its privacy policy.
If you email support, we process your email address and whatever you choose to include to answer your request. Please don't send Health records or recordings unless they're needed and you choose to share them.
Children
SnoreSense is designed for adults exploring their own snoring and nighttime routines. It is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher age), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when the app or website changes how information is handled, and revise the “Last updated” date above. For material changes — such as introducing optional cloud sync — we'll also give notice in the app before the change takes effect.
